DNS Problems in Mac OS X 10.3.9

This has been a frustrating morning. I’ve spent a couple hours (and a couple of hours last night) working on an annoying DNS lookup problem. If you’re not familiar with what DNS is, it’s a Domain Name Service and it’s what you’re computer uses to connect the cool web site names (like freshblogger.com) into the actual numerical IP address.
I’ve had a recurring problem that’s intermittent, but persistent when it occurs. My iBook will be unable to resolve some web page names, including my own. Some of the most popular sites came up with no problem, but others came back with an error message stating that the server could not be found. Ugh!

After fooling with wireless router, OS X internet connection settings, etc, I finally tried replacing the default DNS servers in internet connect with a couple of generic ones I found on the net. This worked!

I’m now back in business, but I wish this problem were one that could be resolved permanently. I’m perfectly capable of troubleshooting hardware and software problems, but I’d rather spend my time researching and writing instead. Hopefully, I’ll never have this problem again when I upgrade to a new MacBook Pro.
