My apologies to those readers who may have experienced problems with the appearance of this site recently. I had noted after making some changes to the layout of freshblogger.com that there were some XHTML errors present. There were initially about 99 errors and I managed to pare them down to just 10 or 12. The page looked fine in Firefox on my iBook.
Unfortunately, I checked my blog this morning from a Windows XP machine and saw that there were some nasty problems. Needless to say, I took some time to validate the code. When I ran the XHTML validator from W3C, it came back with 57 errors!
It took me a couple of hours and constantly verifying that things looked ok on both the XP box running a current version of Internet Explorer and my iBook running Firefox, but the code is now cleaned up and passes validation. Please feel free to let me know if you see any problems like this in the future.
As a side note: This is a great time to point out that poor coding on your web page or blog can adversely affect indexing by search engines as well as make your readers’ browsing experience unpleasant. In fact, new readers may click away after just a few seconds from a page that doesn’t render properly. You should make sure to check regularly that your code is correct.
