Firefox 2 Officially Released

Many of us have been waiting for the latest release of Firefox for some time now. For those who are unfamiliar with it, Firefox is a freeware internet browser program available for Windows, OS X, and Linux that has many cool features including tabbed browsing and integrated RSS feeds. There are a number of visitors to this blog that use Firefox, somewhere close to 40% right now, I believe. I’ve mentioned before that I use it myself and like the features quite a bit.

I have had a few complaints, though. I’m not entirely sure Firefox is to blame, but there are a few annoyances that I hope have been rectified in this latest release. My biggest problems have been related to some GUI bugs that come up when the browser has been open for a while. Other than that, I really do like it much better than Safari and much, much better than the crappy Internet Explorer 5.2 for Mac. Also, if you’re tired of the lack of respect for internet standards (like CSS and XHTML) of Internet Explorer 6 for Windows, definitely check out Firefox.

Firefox 2.0 has numerous improvements and bug fixes. Prominent among these are improvements in speed and stability, an inline spell checker and further integration of RSS feeds. You can click here for a concise review. I’ll probably download it in the next few days and add my own review soon after.
