Marketing & SEO Blogs - Blog Top Sites

I’m a little puzzled and, I have to say, disappointed with Text Link Ads (aff). I’ve been turned down twice already after applying for inclusion in their publisher network. I’m not entirely surprised at this as my blog is relatively new at two months old. I also haven’t managed to get Page Rank yet in Google’s latest update, though I expect that will be coming with the next one (my old page was a 3 with much less traffic than this one has).

What really has disappointed me is that I replied to an email the first time I was declined and never received a response. The email actually did invite me to reply with any questions I might have (No, I didn’t reply to a ‘no-reply’ email). Unfortunately, that was several weeks ago and I haven’t heard from them. I’m betting it was some sort of oversight as they are most likely very busy, but there is a funny kind of irony in the fact that their home address posted on their web site is only a few minutes away from where I work. I doubt if many clients visit, though.

Anyway, what do you think? Does anyone know what the secret is to getting accepted into the Text Link Ads publisher program?

I haven’t figured it out yet. They accepted a ‘dead’ blog of mine that hasn’t seen any posting activity in 3 months, but they haven’t accepted Blogging Blog. I don’t have a clue what their methods are, though I sure would like to know. They say it’s not PR based, but I suspect that it is.

I have the same suspicion. I know they have some standards, but they won’t say exactly what they are.

Ray, this interview on Work Boxers might give you some answers.

Thanks, Jaro. I’ve seen that one before and linked to it, but it doesn’t really provide a whole lot of information. He mentions Alexa traffic rankings, but I definitely think that the age of the site has a lot to do with whether it’s accepted.

Something that I’d forgotten from the interview was that Patrick mentioned that they review sites that are declined every couple of months. Maybe I should just hang in there and be patient…

Ray, you are correct. I was under the impression that Patrick mentioned age of a site as one of the factors based on which they decide to accept or decline the website.

Just a comment about Page Ranks. I think it has more to do with links than traffic.

Yep. Jaro, I remember reading that interview and thinking that it really didn’t say much about how they approved sites. I do believe that there is some basic criteria involving the age of the site and the number of links, of course. Since Patrick mentioned Alexa, I’m sure that traffic has some part in the equation, too.

Insurance Guy (Syed, right?): Google seems to have the most complex algorithms for what would seem to be the simplest things. If we could figure out what’s going on the Wizard Tower in Mountain View, we would be very rich men…

Thanks for the input, guys. If I find out anything, I’ll be sure to post about it. Please feel free to let me know if you find out anything. Also, I’d be happy to link to any good sources you dig up.
