Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra

My Akismet comment spam filter has caught 662 spam comments in the time since this blog was started. That’s just over two months now. Most of the spam appears to be trying to sell viagra, while there are quite a few for cialis and levitra. Offhand, I’m not sure what the others are for, but I’ve heard of viagra. Lately, I’ve even been seeing some spam for stock picks and ringtones. Are ringtones still that hot?

I’m doubting that many people click the links in comment spam, but I’m sure it’s a cheap way of getting your url’s out there in front of potential customers. I’ll bet the conversion rate sucks, but, who knows? I’m just glad I have protection and I don’t have to discover these comments on my blog each morning and then delete them manually. Akismet is a plugin for wordpress that’s free for personal blogs and pretty affordable for commercial use, too (currently, $5/month per blog).

There are other comment spam blockers, but I haven’t tried them out yet. This one has worked well for me and honestly, I’d rather spend my time on something other than fooling around with spam or anti-spam software. If only Macs were spam-free as well as virus- and spyware-free.

One Response to Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra

  1. I have heard that Akismet often mistaken. Especially if somebody write about viagra and clialis. This is true for pharma sites.
