FreshBlogger Is Now PageRank 5
10 Comments Published January 31st, 2007 in PageRank, SEO/Traffic/Links, googleI’m finally seeing Google PageRank of 5 on my toolbar in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, but only on my work computer. I still don’t see it on my poor little iBook, either on the open wireless network at my work or my network at home. I’m happy to see it show up at all, but I’m still puzzled by why it took so long to appear on the toolbar and why it continues to show as PR 0 on my laptop. And don’t tell me it’s because Apple sucks!
Another interesting observation I’ve made is that the PageRank for freshblogger.com is 5 while the PageRank for www.freshblogger.com is 3. I thought I’d posted before about the value of redirecting all traffic to one or the other of those URL’s in order to not dilute your PageRank, but I can’t seem to find it in my archives. It might be time for another 5 Minute How To post… Anyway, you would think Google’s algorithms would correct for this, but what I’m seeing seems to indicate that Google, does, in fact, view those two URL’s as completely different. Otherwise, both should have the exact same PageRank.
Besides helping to teach me a little patience, this whole episode has led me to once again recommend taking some simple steps to improve the Search Engine Optimization of your blog or website. It can’t hurt, and it can definitely help improve your PageRank, too.

For Google you can set it up in Webmaster Central for your preferred prefix, I think Yahoo and MSN work it out by themselves.
Congrats Ray.
And this is a great post which tells you to do what Andy says!
I still don’t see any PR on Fresh Blogger – crazy Google.
COngrats! Go do the how to please;)
You can do effectively PR5 in just a few days if you have the right linkbait.
A cool wordpress plugin almost guarantees it
Thanks, guys! Andy, don’t tease me! Tell me more…
Oh, and I did set the preferred domain in WebMaster Central, but I also did a redirect via .htaccess, I believe. I’ll have to look when I get time…
As an expample wp-plugins.info
I had a programmer take some free code from Dynamic Drive and add a simple interface to it. I even had to move the domain due to trademark issues, so most of the backlinks it had from last year were lost, or might not be fully counted.
It just regained PR5
DisclosurePolicyPlugin.com
Gained maybe 12 links before the update – PR4 now – note I didn’t give it any from wp.org which was a mistake – I should have added it correctly to the codex beforehand.
Create some other kind of catchy widget – I am sure search engine journal do well with “How Much is Your Blog Worth”
Thanks, Andy. I’ve thought about the widget idea. I do programming for my day job, but not enough web programming to be able to put something together quickly. I’ve also thought about making my own wordpress themes. I would make one that’s easy to tweak a little and also optimized for advertising. I just have to find the time…
