Results of the Affiliate Link Disclosure Poll
Published January 4th, 2007 in affiliate programs, blogging, blogs, pollsI’m closing the affiliate link disclosure poll after letting it run for about six weeks now. I’m not sure exactly where this issue stands, but as I stated in my last post on affiliate disclosures, bloggers may now be required by law to disclose affiliate links, at least in the United States. I’m sure more information will be forthcoming on this question as the days go by, but for now, here are the results of my own poll:
Question: Should bloggers indicate if links are affiliate links?
Answers:
| 1. | Yes, always. | 14 Votes |
| 2. | No, never. | 0 Votes |
| 3. | Only if the product gets a positive review. | 2 Votes |
| 4. | Completely Optional. | 9 Votes |
Total Votes: 25
I would have liked to have had a few more votes, but it seems there’s a pretty good consensus that affiliate links should be disclosed. I’m inclined to go in this direction myself now. The question that remains is whether bloggers should include a blanket affiliate link disclosure policy for their entire blog or if they should include indicators next to each affiliate link. I’m not sure if this would be compliant with the regulations discussed in the post I’ve linked to above, but if it is truly a legal requirement, what exactly will comply? Time will tell. Feel free to let me know your thoughts on this in the comments.
