Maybe a good way to stop people from leaving useless comments would be to use the no follow command and make sure this is stated on the page of your blog for all users wishing to leave feedback. This will make them aware that search engine wont follow the link back to there website. Adding a no follow option is pretty straight forward and will make commenting for the sake of receiving a back link virtually worthless.

Hi Michelle. Thanks and you're welcome. What you say is so true. I think we're really seeing a new revolution going on here. After years of being used against regular people and against the consumer, technology is now empowering individuals to stand up for their own rights, both as individuals and collectively. It's changing the world before our eyes. Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for putting this into words. I have been feeling the same way for a long time but you said it so much better. I like comments a ton but not if people are just trying to brown nose.
The reason that consumer generated media is so great is because most people have built-in "bullshit" radar---people aren't stupid.

Hi Christy. That's a great point. I like getting comments regardless of length. Even something short and sweet verifies that someone found your post useful. Thanks for reminding me how important this can be and thanks for taking the time to comment!

I usually try my best to leave a half decent comment. Sometimes I may really like a post and feel the need to leave a comment but there's not much to say. Like if I see a funny video or read a poem. I don't mind short comments on my blog, I don't see it as spam at all. As long as it's a positive comment then I think it's great. I also take into consideration the fact that for some it's difficult to come up with creative or interesting comments, or they have trouble with spelling, etc. I think that a comment that acknowledges the fact that the reader enjoyed the post is just as important as the comment that aids in discussion.
