Apparently a hacker has somehow managed to slip some bad code into the latest download for WordPress which was at version 2.1.1. According to the official WordPress Blog, this may allow a security exploit on your blog if and only if you’re running that version. They are recommending that you immediately download and install the latest version, 2.1.2, which has been completely verified by the WordPress powers that be.

Even though this news is alarming for WordPress users like myself, I understand that this sort of thing can happen from time to time. The WordPress people are taking steps to find out exactly what happened and also to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. I’m just glad that WordPress is on top of it and working hard to maintain and improve this software. I’m also glad I didn’t have time to upgrade to 2.1.1 yet…
