I’ve been tagged again for another blog meme. This time Adnan tagged me to write about 5 reasons why I blog. I’ve posted before on what I get out of blogging, but here are the 5 main reasons why I blog, in no particular order:

1. Blogging helps me make connections. One of my initial goals when I started blogging was to make connections with other people, both on a personal level and for business reasons. This goal has only changed in that it has gotten even more important for me as a reason for blogging. I’ve met all kinds of people all over the world and it’s been very worthwhile for me even if it hasn’t yet resulted in a million dollar business connection. I feel that I’m better for all of the contacts with people that I’ve made in the time I’ve been blogging.

2. It keeps me writing. Obviously, blogging is a job that keeps a person writing pretty often. I write every day now in one form or another. I have to keep writing articles to post on a regular basis as well as writing emails and other correspondence with readers and other people I’m connected with now. This constant exercise has helped to hone my skills and make me a better and more prolific writer than I was before I began blogging.

3. Blogging expands my mind. Not only is blogging good for practicing writing skills, but it’s great for expanding a person’s mental abilities. The constant exposure to new ideas through other blogs, bloggers, and comments helps to sharpen a blogger’s mind as well as extend the range of ideas. All of the responses to posts I write help me to think of new possibilities and new applications for my own ideas. I’m also exposed to new ideas I hadn’t ever thought of before. So much is fresh and new and other bloggers and commenters are often able to present a new perspective that can help us all to understand an issue.

4. It gives me something to work toward. Honestly, there are a lot of other areas in life where I don’t get the feeling I’m making regular progress. It’s sometimes depressing to take stock of things and realize you aren’t exactly where you wanted to be at that point in life. Rather than dwell on other perceived failures, I’d rather focus on what I can accomplish. This blog and blogging in general presents another opportunity for me to work hard toward something that’s become more and more important to me.

5. It has potential to make money. I won’t lie to you when I say that I have hopes of someday making a good living from blogging and other internet ventures. Freshblogger alone doesn’t make me much money as yet, but that amount grows as my readership and traffic levels grow. I’ve come a long way from the nothing I began with, but there’s still a long way to go. Other bloggers get a lot of interest from their readers when they disclose how much they make from blogging, but I’m not at a point where I feel comfortable in doing this. Perhaps in the future I’ll start doing this.

There you have it. These are the 5 main reasons why I blog, at least, the ones I could think of on this Monday morning. I hold dearly the dream that someday Mondays will not suck!

    “3. Blogging expands my mind.”

    Same here!

I’ve truly gained so much from my interlocutors on my blog and the main activity is in the comments section and not my posts.

Hi Tisha. I’ve found the same thing to be true. I can really only start the discussion with a post. The comments are where it gets chewed up and digested by readers. Often, a really great piece of insight is added in the comments thread that really puts it all together. Another reason why blogging is awesome! Thanks for commenting!
