Thanks for submitting this excellent post to the Living by Design Blog Carnival - it will be included and published later today.

I have also found the First things First principle highly effective and appreciate your summary and personal expression of it here.

with best wishes

"...It’s vitally important to put one thing first..."

I don't really want to disagree, but here's a poem I wrote about not doing exactly that.

Love is the perfect poem:
Analyse it and it's marred.
Speak of it? You must begin
And be betrayed by where you start.
All emotion, being, self -
Chuckled tears in the wellspring heart;
To go beyond "I love you",
Beyond living it, is hard.
This sort-of sonnet seeks success
Starting from certainty of failure -
An apology not designed to impress,
Not adding more where more is less,
Just saying "I love you", yes:
I love you.

I've had the same experience, Alex. It's so common for us to have many different roles and responsibilities today that it's easy for life to get crazy. At any given time, I have to be a father, blogger, programmer, friend, son, etc, and still try to be my own individual person. With all of these things pulling at me, it's really difficult to push everything else out of my mind and focus on that one single task at hand. When I do, though, I find that I'm able to get it done much more quickly and efficiently. Lots of practice can build this into a regular habit. Thanks for your comment!

Hi Ray,

Sometimes, I lose focus too because I tried "multi-tasking". Like what you said, I later found that many of the tasks that I did were "sh*tty". It's hard to get things done in this way. So right now, I try to finish one task and make sure I am satisfied before I move on to the next.
