Valentin and Peter: Simplicity is a virtue that seems all but lost in our modern, high tech world. I think a lot could be accomplished on many different fronts if we chose to collectively focus on keeping things simple...

Pearl: I agree. We hear that all the time, but it's usually only when some type of catastrophe or almost-catastrophe befalls us that we stand up and take notice of how little time we really do have, or rather, how much time we don't spend the way we would like.

Yes you are so right about that ray. I often wonder when I hear people say, 'life is short' and 'time is flying' that if we really took the time to stop and think of those two simple statements each day - rather than just saying them in passing - our priorities might change for the better!

"That’s what *you* have to find out. " - OBVIOUSLY !

the answer is inside and is unique for each unique entity.

"what`s fit for me may not be fit for you" "try hard(er) to keep things simple"

Hi Pearl. Doesn't life just seem so complicated most of the time? I bet if more of us followed Curly's advice, we'd all be a lot more satisfied. Thanks for joining the conversation!

Hi sbizblog. That's a great insight. The students who challenge us the most as teachers do tend to get higher grades. I wonder they also tend to be more successful in life. And, of course, what about their level of happiness? Thanks for your comment!

Thanks, Maile. I've always remembered that quote because there seemed to be such a fundamental truth in it. Maybe we're trying too hard!

As a teacher myself, I can say that this is completely true. In a way, you're trying to avoid the backlash that challenging students provide. In another way, you know that the challenging students are taking their education seriously. Teachers do give higher grades to those who question, doubt, probe, etc. Inside of all teachers, we value irrerverence: only those who take the time to question are really trying to figure out what life is all about.

I will now get off the soap box.
