The Untimely and Sad Death of an iBook
Published July 31st, 2007 in apple, iBook, life, macSometime in the wee hours of Friday night or Saturday morning, my little family slumbered peacefully. Tucked away in its snug and comfortable bed, my little iBook peacefully dreamed of electric sheep… until it happened. Without the slightest of pathetic electrical bleeps, it gave up the ghost. Alas!
Apparently, some important solder welds on the logic board have given out. This has caused the dreaded black screen and whirring fan disorder that plagues a small, unlucky percentage of laptop owners. After a couple of tortuous dissassemblies and clever repair attempts, I’m still unable to boot up the computer. [Insert string of shocking and gratuitous expletives here.]
I’m in mourning. This little laptop computer has given me great service for two and a half years now. I do have to say that I’ve been noticing how slow it’s become for some time, though. It’s time for me to get a new computer.
I’m actually thinking of getting a desktop computer this time. I don’t think I need a laptop as much now as I did when I bought the iBook. I was in school at the time and doing a lot of work in different places. Now, I do almost all of my work at home and I have some space to set up a desktop.
The only problem is that I have no funds at all for buying a new computer. I’m thinking of taking up donations. What do you think? Would anyone out there be interested in donating to the FreshBlogger Computer Fund?
As a side note, I’m typing this post on a very old, but faithful, clamshell iBook, a Blueberry, to be exact. It’s an incredibly solid computer with a keyboard that is a bit bigger than those on the newer iBooks and actually much easier and pleasant to type on. I’m trying to ignore the ominous clicks coming from its aged hard drive, though!

I’m so sorry to hear the bad news - RIP Ray’s laptop.
Lol - but yeah I wouldn’t mind contributing some blogging dollars to the Computer Fund.
