The Curse of Internet Explorer 5

I’m writing this post from my battered little clamshell iBook I mentioned in my previous post about the sad death of my iBook G4. With the clamshell’s slow (300MHz) processor speed and old OS (9.1), I’m having to do most of my blogging work with one hand tied behind my back.

The browser version I’m using is Internet Explorer 5.1.7, which is, as I understand it, the last version released for the classic Mac OS. In a word, it sucks. I’m finding that many of the modern features of websites aren’t rendered properly. In fact, many of the features of my WordPress Dashboard don’t work right.

I’m just thankful that I can post at all from home now. I do have to say this for IE 5, though: it’s lightweight and fairly quick for such an old browser. This computer only has a total of 64MB of RAM and much of that is taken up by the operating system. IE itself is apparently only using about 8MB for it’s own evil purposes.

Given what I’ve said above, please understand if it takes me a while to respond to your comments. With my computing handicap at home and a complicated, overdue project at work, I’m finding it impossible to stay current with blogging. Most of my work will come in bursts, so don’t be surprised if you see a couple of daily posts and then none for a few days. Thanks to everyone for hanging in there with me!

Note: If you’d like to help remedy this situation, consider clicking the donation button on the sidebar and contributing to my new computer fund!
