FreshBlogger’s One Year Anniversary
Published September 5th, 2007 in blogging, blogsThis blog has finally passed the one year milestone. Looking back at my archives, August 30th was actually the first day I posted to this blog: Welcome to FreshBlogger. Since then, I’ve written a couple hundred posts and had several guest bloggers write some great articles. Including the posts I imported from my old blogspots blog, there are now more than 350 articles in the archives here.
It feels pretty good to have made it to this point. While there have been a lot of times that I was enthusiastic about writing posts, there have been plenty of times when I was bored or apathetic and just wasn’t feeling it. I’ve managed to stick with it and make it to this point, though, and I’m glad I did.
This blog has had a great influence on my life. It’s allowed me to express myself, practice writing, and also to make contact with people from all over the world. This is pretty awesome stuff.
This blog and you, the readers and friends that I’ve made over this past year, have helped me to keep going at times through changes in my life. A lot has happened and it seems like it’s been much longer than a year that I’ve been writing on this blog. Blogging has been a much-needed diversion from the challenges of life.
Not only has life changed for me in this time, but the online world has changed, too. The world wide web has continued to grow up and mature into something more useful, more vibrant, more interesting, and more dangerous. There is more and better information available, more efficient technology, more multimedia, and more access. There are also more threats to privacy, more security risks, more spammers, and more hackers with bad intentions.
Blogging has also evolved and developed. There are more bloggers now than ever before. I think Technorati tracks well over 50 million blogs and this is an incredible thing. The number of people writing, expressing, sharing, and informing is amazing. There is really no precedent in history for what’s happening now. No one knows what this is doing to the human race and where it’s leading. Only the future will tell.
Many of these bloggers are making some money, too. A fraction of the total numbers of bloggers, certianly, and probably not a lot of money, but there are quite a few bloggers who have made it to that first stage of being able to make the relatively few dollars a month that it takes to pay for hosting. That’s quite an accomplishment in many ways, considering that blogging starts out for most as a hobby. How many of you have made enough money playing golf that you were able to pay for 18 holes every week?
This has been a year full of change. A year of sorrows and joys, accomplishment and utter defeat. A year that tells the story of the human condition. I’m glad to have lived this story and written some of it here on this blog. Thanks to all of you for sticking with me. And, don’t worry: I’m not done yet.

Ray, congratulations on reaching an important milestone. And, thank for presenting such a well written and interesting blog.
Blogging is still somewhat of a hobby for me, but a serious hobby at that. I can’t imagine not having a voice online and blogging has done that for so many people.
I look forward to your second year of blogging.
Congrats on the anniversary Ray. It’s been tough for both of us, but I’m glad we’ve stuck through it, because things can only get better from here after laying down the foundations and the hard work. Here’s to a 2nd even better year for ya mate!
Happy anniversary, Ray. Banzai !
