Watching the Snow Falling
17 Comments Published February 20th, 2008 in advice, happiness, life, positive thinkingI’m sitting here at home at my command center today and I’m watching the snow falling outside my window. Gusts of wispy white alternate with flurries of cotton balls every few minutes against a backdrop of spruce trees. Patches of sky are visible between the stretched out boughs and sometimes a little blue even shows through. The sounds of the world are far away and I’m struck by the stillness before me. It’s a beautiful day.
No, I’m not turning this blog into poetry. I’m urging you to take a moment today to enjoy what’s around you. If you can take some time to gaze out a window and just be for a long minute or two, it will do wonders for your spirit. No matter how awful the things you’ve just turned away from may seem to be right now, there absolutely is goodness, beauty, and peace in the world. Look for it.

Good sentiment. Here are some photos from a couple days I spent enjoying Mount Rainier.
Great advice. Shall take it.
You know how I know you’re gay?
Do you love to write a poem? How I wish you could write a poem for that! I’m sure you enjoy the view..
It is indeed important to take a moment to enjoy what’s around us. It is not enough to look at the world from our IE/Firefox window, the world outside our house’s window is the real one.
Im sitting on my porch, the glow of the city reflects on the smog that surrounds the hills. My smoke is thick in my mouth and bittersweet. The white noise of the town is down to a dull hum and the traffic has slowed.
Its a nice night in Los Angeles.
Thanks, John. Those are awesome photos!
Don, you’re killing me! I know you’re gay because of all the star wars action figures…
Hey Guy, I haven’t written a poem in years, but I occasionally write short stories (or, I used to). Thanks for commenting and your blog is funny!
I am from Philippines and it was really cool to watch snow falling in some movies. I think that snow falling is something romantic and even famous poets can’t help but put it in there writings. I have remembered a lot of poets have poems about snow falling.I think there is something in it that can wake up the creativity of one person.
40 centimeters of snow in Montreal this weekend. although its beautiful, It took me 3 hours to dig my car out of the snow… I’m looking forward to the summer
It’s good to just stop now and again, and allow yourself to contemplate and ponder over your blessings. I know I don’t do it half enough.
We sometimes get so busy trying to make a living, that we actually stop living.
Hi Ray, thanks for visiting my blog..
Do you know one?
Huh, what’s funny with my blog? It’s all about the different “Guy Cohen” that exist!
@Deane – the snow really is a beautiful thing to watch! There’s something so tranquil and calming about it sometimes.
@palm cell – I know what you mean! I love watching it, but it’s starts to melt soon and turns into icy mud around here. I’m usually ready for summer a couple of weeks after Christmas!
@Armen – You’re so right. Life is so hectic and seems so often to be out of control. I’d like to write more on that topic.
Thanks to all of you for your comments!
Sounds gorgeous! I can close my eyes and see the snow falling : ]
Guy, the whole idea is funny! Actually, I’ve never met anyone else named Guy Cohen. You’re the first!
Shucks, I’ve got no snow here in San Diego.
