I received a request recently through my hosting provider to remove some old links on comments. Going back through and removing these, I realized that many of what look like spam links today (and most truly are) resemble the links from the good old days of this blog (and blogging in general!) back in 2007 and 2008.
Those were the days when blogging was a relatively new thing and blogs were starting almost by the minute. Bloggers were looking to make a few bucks (hence the spammy sounding links) or maybe just put in their two cents. Most of the time the comments did, in fact, add value to our discussion and at the same time served to bring traffic to their current projects. I welcomed all of these friends to the blog.
All kinds of people from all over the world were getting into the conversation and it was an exciting time to be involved. I was fortunate enough to brush shoulders (electronically, for the most part) with some of the blogging greats and innovators of the day and to become good friends with some of them.
It’s been a long time since then, but I’m hoping some of my old friends are still out there posting something of interest. The world has changed much over these years, for me personally and for all of us. There is still much to say that can add value.
I’ll be doing some surfing and checking on old friends over the next few weeks as time permits, but if you’re one of my blogging buddies (Adnan, Ilker, Pearl?) from way back and you’re stopping in by chance, please leave a comment and let me know how you’re doing. And, if you’re a new reader and just stumbled on this blog by accident or through a (very) old link, I’d love to hear from you as well.
